Heart disease warning factors 'missed by many adults' a BBC Report

While a third of people are worried about getting dementia or cancer, only 2% are afraid of coronary heart disease, a survey by the British Heart Foundation has found.

And one in ten adults confessed to not knowing how to look after their hearts.
Coronary heart disease (CHD) is responsible for about 74,000 deaths in the UK each year.

The British Heart Foundation has issued 10 tips to prevent heart disease:

  • Give up smoking *
  • If you're over 40, take up your free NHS health check
  • Maintain a healthy weight *
  • Lead an active lifestyle*
  • Ditch the salt *
  • Eat your "five a day" of fruit and vegetables *
  • Cut down on saturated fat *
  • Read food labels to find out if something is healthy for you
  • Don't drink too much alcohol
  • Watch food portion sizes.

Walking - the king of exercises

Walk Your Way To Better Health
We have some of the most lovely countryside and mountains in Wales. I try and get out a least twice a week to do a two hour walk with my Thornton-Pickard camera in case I get the opportunity of  some impromptu photography.

But...

Remember to stretch your calf muscles to help prevent Plantar Fasciitis (sometimes incorrectly referred to by layman as a heel spurs)

Another way to prevent Plantar Fasciitis is to wear the appropriate footwear.

Paul a.k.a Paul1976, Paul-1976 Keyboard Jockeying Troll

Hi avid readers of mine,

I recently received a comment form someone calling themselves "Loafer" in regards to "The Low Carb Diabetic Forum" hosted by forumotion and set-up by Eddie Mitchell. A prolific blogger of  low-carb quackery and Big Pharma conspiracy theory.

Who recently ventured in to forum land after what has seem aeon’s criticising  the diabetic.co.uk (DCUK) forum that he nicknames the “flog". For amongst other this their moderation of posts.

I have to be completely honest I don’t like the diabetic.co.uk (DCUK) site either and  I will be giving them a critique in a later post.

But...... has Eddie who no stranger to faux pas, committed his his biggest blunder to date.

By employing a keyboard jockeying troll to moderate his forum, by the on-line name off Paul a.k.a Paul1976, Paul-1976.

A utter prat apparently born on 1976-05-10 and purporting to be from the East Midlands of the UK.  Who frequently uses an image of Johnny Depp’s Willy Wonka as an avatar.

Paul1976 frequently used avatar
Paul's over zealous moderation or banning of anyone who dares question or challenge Eddie Mitchell's shite, makes a mockery of this statement that can be found on the forum.

Quote:-
"We welcome all and encourage robust debate on any subject. We detest censorship"

Paul is considered in some quarters just a sockpuppet  of Eddies, like his not so comical character "Monty Beantipper".

However I think Paul is real and one of these internet weirdo's that sit at their keyboard with their underwear around their ankles playing with themselves. Whilst reading the replies to the latest shite they posted on some forum.

Whatever the truth is, Paul frequently appears on forums for diabetics regurgitating Eddies low-carb quackery like some demented parrot.

Like Eddie he frequently complains about being censor on other forums for his opinions, which are mainly half-truths, bullshit and sarcastic comments.

Paul's moderation of Eddies new (well new at the time of writing this) forum has simply turned it in to a scrolling billboard for Eddies assertions. Which is; I suspect the true purpose of the forum. Its what's called in I.T shit-spreading; spreading shit over a wide number of social media platforms.

My advice if you run a diabetic support forum beware of this prat and if your a diabetic seeking to join a forum for support and friendship avoid "The Low Carb Diabetic Forum" or any forum moderated by this prat.

Unless your a masochist and like having the piss taken out of you by Eddie and his in-house troll or just the credulous type who believes the bottom of a chip pan is the panacea to all ills.

Extraordinary Claims Require Extraordinary Evidence

Hi avid readers of mine,

I've just recently watched on TV a late night repeat of the Uk magician Derren Brown stage show "Infamous"

On the show he quoted this phrase that was made popular by Carl Sagan that I'm going to share with you and going to be my quote of the week;

 "Extraordinary Claims Require Extraordinary Evidence"

It's one of those rare quotes that self explanatory. If someone makes an extraordinary claim, there better be extraordinary evidence to back it up.

Barry Groves skewed nutritional opinions and claims.

Hi avid readers of mine,

Once a week I will publishing my comments from the edge, in this post I kick off with a critique of Barry Groves.
Barry Groves

Godfather of American fitness the late Jack LaLanne once quipped "I can’t die, it would ruin my image".

This was certainly the case with Barry Groves a retired electrical engineer from the Cotswold. Who image and credibility took a nose dive after he died back in 2013 from a heart attack in his 70's.

As for years he pedalled a dietary regimen that he implied would protect people form such a fate.

A dietary regime based on eating a large volumes of cheap cooked meats swimming around in grease, at the expense of fruit vegetables and whole grain.

About the time he became an honorary member of the Weston Price Foundation an organisation whose members follow a similar diet.

Barry had acquired dodgy doctorate from some overseas university.

It makes you wonder how credulous a person has to be to take diet and lifestyle tips of a man who looks like a used car salesman who his tan out of a bottle and in possession of such a qualification.

Several national newspapers who ran articles on Barry and his diet advice, certainly came across utterly credulous.

They didn’t seem to pick up on his dodgy doctorate in nutritional science or question why the dietary regime he was peddling was completely contradictory to NHS guidelines. Guidelines based on the most up to date research and science.

But one has to remember in the UK the word “doctorate" is not a protected word by law.

So he was  within his rights to say he had a doctorate even without having completed a proper accredited course.  His was based on his "life experience" and apparently brought.

After Barry death another self-style diet guru this time from the wrong side of the Atlantic wrote about Barry's and his diet  "It allowed him to live a long and healthy robust life".

Clearly the author  didn't bother to read the numerous articles on Barry website or he would have known that Barry openly admitted he had suffered and underwent conventional treatment for bowel cancer.

Barry was anything buy healthy and was certainly unfit. He shunned exercise as was evident on his website.

I could spend hours writing about Barry skewed nutritional opinions and  unsubstantiated claims.

Such gems as implying smoking is harmless and might even be beneficial and other nuggets of shite supported with evidence drawn from out-of-date poorly done old studies.

What Barry called research consisted of giving reports on medical studies and giving a different set of conclusions to the data that the researchers found.

I will start to conclude by saying that Barry followed and promoted a diet regimen that certainly had no benefits to his own health.

His father and brother who I believe was called Richard died apparently from the very same condition a  he did at a similar age.

Which pointed to to the fact that Barry probably had some sort of genetic abnormality. Which meant the diet regime he actively promoted would have had no benefit for him.

Either way his books and websites in my humble opinion are full of advice that should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Or if your following Barry diet and health tips several tablespoons of the stuff, along with a cigarette and big fry-up. Which according to Barry was a panacea for or ills.

Regard

Paul Jones Phd

Please Note:

With all that said, a death is an unpleasant experience  and my sympathies are with his family for their loss.

Also not everything he wrote was shite, its just that a large amount of it was and went unchallenged.

Bloody Disclaimer

Hi avid readers of mine,

We live in litigious times, a unwelcome trends that has drifted to the shores of good Old Blighty from those living on the wrong side of the pond.

The UK now seems full of lawyers touting for business for litigants looking for spurious claims for compensation.

All as we say in the Britain dosser's trying their luck on the “comp lottery”.

So following the trend of websites having a disclaimer, I followed suit.

Technically making my first post on my blog a bloody disclaimer that can be read here: Disclaimer
